PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY

What to expect

MORE THAN JUST SYMPTOM REDUCTION.

I want to help you to understand how symptoms (such as anxiety or depression) have developed over time, how they are woven into your life and experiences and what might have contributed to them developing.

EXPLORING YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

We want to understand patterns and interpersonal dynamics within your current and past relationships.

IDENTIFYING PATTERNS IN YOUR LIFE.

Patterns develop over time and you may not even be aware of them. They may include relationship patterns, patterns in coping mechanisms or communication patterns that have a negative impact on your relationships.

LISTENING TO YOUR EMOTIONS

Psychodynamic therapy goes beyond thinking and logic. Listening to your emotions, giving them space to exist without judgement and with curiosity is so important, even when they don't
"make sense"

THINKING ABOUT YOUR PAST

Your past experiences have shaped you into who you are and it is important to look back to make sense of things in the present.

BECOMING AWARE OF HOW YOU AVOID THINGS IN YOUR LIFE

It’s natural to want to avoid discomfort. The downside of this is at avoiding can result in greater suffering and decreased freedom in your life. Together we would get in touch with what you are avoiding in your life and within yourself and understand why.

YOUR UNCONSCIOUS MIND

So much of what we do, feel and think is influenced by our unconscious minds. You might find yourself thinking “I don’t know why I just said that” or “I’m feeling really upset today and I don’t know why”. In these instances there may be something happening that is not yet conscious.

FEES AND REFERRALS

My session fee is $220 for a 50 minute consultation.

If you have a mental health care plan (obtained from your General Practitioner) you will be eligible to receive a Medicare rebate of $129.55 for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Most private health insurance extras packages include a rebate for psychological services. You should contact your insurer to determine your eligibility for a rebate and the amount.
